ABOUT

THE VISION: GOD'S FIRE

THE BIRTH OF FIRESTARTERS

Firestarters was birthed in 2007 out of a vision that God gave to Sean and to Jen Achey.  God brought each of us (separately) to I Kings 18:21-39 (Read entire text) and showed each of us the same picture of a revival He wants to bring in this generation.

In I Kings 18:21 Elijah challenges the people saying, "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him."  We see this generation similarly wavering between utter unbelief and a twinge of hope that God might actually be who He says He is.

Then begins a showdown between the prophets of Baal and Elijah as they wait for the true God to bring literal fire to burn up a sacrifice on an altar.  In many ways there is a competition going on today between the enemy’s attempts to keep us firmly planted in dead religion and God’s invitation for us all to experience real relationship with Him.  The altar represents all of us and the fire represents the reality of God’s presence made known.

From morning until evening the prophets of Baal begged their “god” to bring fire.  They even slashed themselves with swords, which was their custom, but there was no answer.  We see these actions and their results as a representation of the acts and the fruit of dead religion.

Then Elijah brought the people to himself, repaired the altar of the LORD and did something extraordinary.  He had large jars of water poured onto the altar – twelve times.  In the vision God gave to Sean and Jen, this water represented unbelief that is flowing all over our generation.

Then Elijah prayed.  “O LORD, God of Abraham, Isaac and Israel, let it be known today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant and have done all these things at your command.  Answer me, O LORD, answer me, so these people will know that you, O LORD, are God, and that you are turning their hearts back again."  As God makes the reality of His presence known, we believe the apathy and unbelief that is so prevalent in our generation today will be literally consumed.  We have gotten comfortable with sparks, but our God is a comsuming fire.

ABOUT

THE NAME: FIRESTARTERS

Sean and Jen had been sensing for a year or so that God was calling them into some sort of ministry and they were willing, but unclear on exactly what to do. Both Sean and Jen had seen the same vision from God of the altar and God's Fire, and both of them were contemplating what this all meant.

Sean thought God was calling him and Jen to start a ministry. Jen hesitated to start a whole new ministry with so many other effective ministries already existing. But while Jen was in a time of worship during a Global Awakening conference called “Voice of the Apostles,” God spoke to her and told her clearly, “The ministry you are going to start will be called Firestarters." This is how the name "Firestarters" came into being. Along with the name came the concept that the theme verses and goals of the ministry would be taken from I Kings 18.

The rest is history in process.

May every ounce of glory be given to God.

ABOUT

GENERATIONS X & Y

GENERATION X

The generation following the baby boomers (those born between 1965 – 1980) is typically called “Generation X.”  Generation X is one third the size of the generation after it. Generation X was not a name, but a mark.  Because it was believed that this generation would never make anything of themselves, people attempted to literally "X" this generation out of history, considering they were not worthy of a name.  The only other main name this generation knows is also derogatory, the “Baby Busters” (or the ones who came in and messed everything up for the Baby Boomers). Read more

GENERATION Y

The generation following Generation X (those born between 1980 and 1995) is typically called Generation Y.  Generation Y is 3 times the size of Generation X. They are the first generation to grow up exclusively in the digital age. They are also known as the Millennium Generation, Mypods, Baby Boomlets or the Netters. Read more

THE CHURCH IS IN CRISIS

In his book “The Last Christian Generation” (published in 2006) Josh McDowell writes, “Within 12 months of high school graduation 80-85% of Christian children are simply walking away from church… I sincerely believe unless something is done now to change the spiritual state of our young people - you will become the last Christian generation!"

One of Firestarters' goals is to gather back these young generations to God and to His church, and help others to do the same.

GOD HAS A PURPOSE FOR THESE GENERATIONS

Since abortion was legalized in 1973 around 50,000,000 children in Generations X and Y (and Z) have been killed in their mothers’ wombs (c).  The only other tragedy in world history that has taken so many lives has been World War II, the single deadliest conflict the world has ever known.  (e)

Part of Firestarters’ message is that there is a very specific attack on these young generations and we believe it is because there is a very specific and a very important calling from God on their lives.
